Green Building to Provide Hotel’s Healthy & Comfortable Environments.

A study made by Yong Han Ahn and Annie R Pearce in 2013 in two of the LEED platinum hotels (the Proximity Hotel and the Bardessono Hotel) which results were published in the journal Green Building, revealed that green building practices, such as design or implementation, are sometimes in conflict with guest´s satisfaction and comfort.

But these practices in the hospitality business produce also positive effects for the hotels and their customers, providing a green and luxurious environment together with some financial advantages for hotel owners, who are more and more seeking to transform their hotels in environmentally friendly spaces.

With the newest technologies, the trend for green building not only addresses environmental concern by saving energy, water, and other resources, but it is also expected to improve their guest satisfaction and comfort.

The following are some of the effects produced by carrying out sustainable practices during design and constructions:

• Improving efficiency.

• Saving energy and water.

• High-quality indoor spaces using sustainable materials.

• Raising awareness among the guests about the importance of implementing these green practices.

Some studies reveal that the main goals for business endeavors can be reached with a proper synergy between a great guest experience and green building practices.

By implementing green building practices throughout the building´s life cycles, some hotels are being recognized, especially within the luxury hotel industry. These hotels usually stand out above their competitors, obtaining higher occupancy rates and better reviews from their guests.
