Quality Infrastructure as a Way of Improving Conditions for the Development of a Green Economy

Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC) has been Invite Accreditation Bodies, National Metrology Institutes, and National Standards Bodies of Latin America and the Caribbean, along with members of IAAC, SIM, COPANT and CROSQ to participate in the project: “Promoting Innovation in the Green Economy by including Quality Infrastructure” implemented by PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt Braunschweig und Berlin).

This regional project aims to improve the conditions for the development of the Green Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean by supporting the development of new and improved Quality Infrastructure (QI) services relevant for the Green Economy, defined as an economy that is a low carbon, resource-efficient, and socially inclusive.

The purpose of this form is to verify the interest of different Quality Infrastructure Bodies in Latin America and the Caribbean in different Green Economy themes that have been selected as having the most potential for innovation between QI and Green Economy.

The promotion of the Green Economy is highly relevant for the rapidly growing economies in Latin America and the Caribbean, both in order to orient their growth in a sustainable way and to stay competitive in a dynamic international environment. Moreover, the region stands out for
its exceptional biodiversity, its importance for the global climate as its forests play a significant role in the global carbon budget, but also because of its increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

The project offers the possibility to encompass these themes, which are increasingly relevant in the context of the “Sustainable Development Goals”, an agenda including all the member states of the United Nations.
